Director's Statement
This project was inspired by, and written and filmed during Covid-19 Stay at Home Quarantine. With many people feeling the depression and helplessness of being stuck at home, this project seemed fitting. Those feelings coalesce in this story about a mother, unable to leave her home because she is under house arrest, feeling utterly alone and abandoned as she struggles to understand what happened to her missing daughter. I purposely didn't want to write about a pandemic or covid-19 in particular. Rather, I wanted to create a project that reflected the current atmosphere but presented a a more timeless drama.
After another short film shoot I had planned had to be canceled, I decided to write something that could be shot in the interim --remotely-- and that would involve other artists in the process, working with actors from the safety of their own homes.
All of the scenes were rehearsed via Zoom or Facebook video. We set up shots by me sending storyboard frame drawings, discussing the framing that I was looking for and then verifying the set ups through photos and video emailed back in forth.
When I started the project, I wasn't sure how it was going to work or IF it was going to work. I am very pleased with the result. It's a character piece, driven by strong acting and an emotional story rather than Hollywood bling. I am proud to soon be able to share this film with audiences.
